This computer simulation study was a cost-effectiveness analysis of MRI screening in women at high risk for breast cancer. Although MRI has been suggested for high-risk women because it is more sensitive than mammography, it is expensive and may have lower specificity in this population, leading to increased false-positive reports.
Among women at high risk for developing breast cancer, a combination approach of staggering MRI with mammography and clinical breast examination could be potentially cost-effective.
